As you arrive in Margaret River, you can be excused for thinking you're entering another world. Leave your cares on the side of the road just outside the town limits, and take in the relaxed, layed back feeling of this inland haven. Situated 300km south-west of Perth, Margaret River is an ideal holiday destination for family getaways, romantic weekends, surfing safaris, wine-tasting adventures or that much-needed escape from the stresses of every day life.
The Margaret River Wine Region is home to over 60 premium wineries and some boutique breweries as well. You can spend your days sampling world renowned wines and enjoying local gourmet produce in restaurants at many of the wineries.
It seems the Margaret River Wine Region was made especially for those who enjoy a relaxing drive. The vineyards make way for rugged landscape as you enter the Karri Forest. The majesty of the giant Karri Trees is enhanced by the splendour of many varieties of wildflowers throughout the area. |
The appropriately named Caves Road takes you to the four major caves open to the public - Yallingup Cave, Jewel Cave, Lake Cave and Mammoth Cave. In direct contrast to the thick bushland, some of the best surf beaches in Australia are found in this area.
Accommodation options are varied with something to suit all requirements. Hotels, Motels, Serviced Apartments, Bed & Breakfast, Guesthouses, Cottages, Resorts, Caravan & Camping Parks, Backpackers, and even a converted tram carriage where you can awake to the sounds of farm animals!
Located in the Margaret River town centre, the Tourist Office is a recommended resource to plan your itinerary. The Art Galleries, Boutique Shops, Fudge Factory, Cheese Factory, Ice-Creamery, Animal Farm, Markets, Mazes, Cultural Centres, Caves and Walking Tours are just an example of the wide and varied activities offered in this region.
